Welcome to Troop 629 and the Boy Scout program. Whether you are brand new to the scouting organization or an experienced scout parent, the information in this Welcome Section should answer many of your questions.
Boy Scouting differs from Cub Scouting in that it is a boy-led/boy-run program. This means that the boys are responsible for developing and implementing activities and advancement. Adults are always present, but their role is as a mentor or committee member. Troop 629 is very fortunate to have over 30 registered adult volunteers who lend their time and talents in a variety of ways
Volunteering is the best way to help your scout and the troop succeed. Therefore, parents are requested to help either behind the scenes or directly with the scouts. The program is an active one with lots of opportunities to participate in many activities, including: campouts, service projects, fundraising projects and many other programs. Scholarships are available for those scouts in need of financial assistance. Additionally, each scout is encouraged to participate in fundraising projects to earn money for their personal account. These personal accounts help pay for activities, including summer camp and high adventure trips.
We are pleased that you and your son have chosen to be a part our Troop.
